The project
I have always been interested in clothing, especially when I was a teenager. During COVID, with not much to do but with the Makers Lab at HvA still open, a friend and I decided to try making some clothes for Davin, another friend of ours.
We started by creating mood boards and researching different ways to put designs on shirts. In the end, we chose three designs that we really liked. After experimenting with various tools in the Makers Lab, we used a laser printer to apply two designs to shirts. For the third shirt, we decided to try something different. I sewed three different flags representing all the parties involved and added two buttons to the shirt, so you could choose which flag to display.
At the end, we also wanted to laser-cut our initials into the shirt, so we used a laser cutter at the Makers Lab to do that.
I didn’t exactly learn how to make clothing, but I did learn a lot about how prints and designs are made and applied.
